Undergraduate Committees

We work best in teams

We do a lot of preparation for our health fairs to ensure that they run smoothly.  Tasks include ensuring enough health screening supplies, health educational materials, referral sheets, volunteers, funds, and much more in order to run these health fairs.  To make things more efficient, we have divided these tasks among different committees.  As a member, you will have the opportunity to join a committee.

Our Committees

The role of the Client Relations committee is to extend our impact beyond our screening visit by following up with clients by phone. Through maintaining contact with clients, we can help them to keep with recommendations, obtain clinical services and access food/financial resources during COVID-19.
In the future, client relations should seek more platforms to establish communication with clients and schedule calls with clients better.

The Finance and Logistics committee is committed to sustaining the organization’s operations through the acquisition and management of funds. Our funds are directly used to provide greater healthcare access, referrals, and health education to the API community by helping them overcome cultural, linguistic, and socioeconomic barriers that oftentimes limit their access to appropriate healthcare services. We hope to continue expanding our organization’s fiscal resources in order to implement more efficacious and higher quality health services to our API community.

The purpose of the Health Education committee is to increase the awareness and understanding of API-prevalent health issues by hosting health seminars in collaboration with community partners. Through education, we aim to promote preventative health care and motivate healthy lifestyles.
Our goals for the upcoming year include targeting more diverse audiences, such as different API subpopulations and different age ranges, as well as expanding on in-reach education of APA members.

The Publicity and Activities (P/A) committee organizes APA's online platforms, intra-organization socials, mentorship programs (undergraduate and graduate), and professional development workshops. We have publicized our health fairs and services  to expand the scope of APA's work in the community. Currently, P/A is developing and updating the infographics on our COVID-19 Info page to increase public awareness of and access to social and medical resources.

Referrals members connect our clients that are uninsured and/or do not have a regular doctor to long-term care. Members address barriers that may prevent clients from accessing long-term care through referring to clinics that are language appropriate, culturally competent, and low-cost and/or free and provide assistance to enroll in insurance. Our work consists of maintaining an up-to-date database of these clinics, conducting referral site visits, and understanding our client population and possible barriers to access.
